DOL launches redesigned website

OLYMPIA—The Department of Licensing (DOL) recently launched an entirely redesigned website to better serve Washington citizens.

“Many DOL services, like car and driver licensing renewals and filing a master business application can be completed over the Internet, and our hope is that the new website will make it faster and easier,” said DOL Director Liz Luce.

Luce said the new site was designed from the ground up using real-world usability testing to ensure that it is easy to navigate and includes the all of the material citizens really need. In addition to an entirely new design, much of the content on the site has been rewritten using Plain Talk concepts to make the information easy to understand.

With more than 906,300 visitors each month, the DOL website is one of the most visited websites in state government. Earlier this summer, DOL reached an impressive milestone when the number of online licensing transactions processed by the agency exceeded five million.

“In July we processed 193,394 online transactions—the highest monthly numbers ever,” Luce said. “This represents a lot of time and vehicle trips saved by Washington citizens.”

Some of the July online transaction highlights include:

  • 89,269 vehicle tab renewals were processed
  • 44,638 customers reported the sale of a vehicle
  • 5,189 customers filed a Master Business License Application
  • 5,818 customers renewed their driver licenses
