University Place Licensing Service Office closing permanently September 26

OLYMPIA — Pierce County residents are advised the University Place Driver Licensing Service Office (LSO), located at 8313 27th Street West, is closing permanently.

The last day of service at the University Place LSO will be Saturday, September 26, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The office closure is part of Governor Chris Gregoire’s plan to reinvent government services. As part of this plan, DOL will consolidate many driver licensing offices around the state and offer more online and self-service options.

Customers can conduct many transactions, including renewing a driver license or ordering a duplicate driver license, online at www.dol.wa.gov. Customers that must visit an office in- person can go to:

  • Parkland LSO, 2502 112th St. E, Suite 200

DOL’s consolidation plan, which was approved by the 2009 Legislature, includes consolidating a total of 10 offices, primarily in urban locations on the west side of the state within a few miles of another office. Offices in Auburn, Greenwood, Olympia, and Othello already have been closed.

DOL employees in offices closed under this plan will move to nearby offices. The expected cost savings under the plan is $2.6 million this biennium and $2.9 in the subsequent biennium.

Plans to beef up online services and installing self service stations at LSOs are moving forward. The Department encourages everyone to skip a trip and renew their driver license or ID card online at www.dol.wa.gov.
