OLYMPIA — Department of Licensing (DOL) offices will be open on Tuesday, Feb. 22, even though many other state agencies are closed for a required temporary layoff day. Closing the entire agency down for five days allowed DOL to reach its $1.3 million budget reduction target.
“We worked hard to achieve these savings with the least possible impacts to our customers,” said Director Liz Luce. “Data showed that closing our offices for temporary layoff days had customer wait time impacts that lasted for weeks.”
Temporary layoff days for state employees were approved by the Legislature and signed by the Governor in the face of historic state budget shortfalls.
DOL offices usually open on Saturday will be closed this Saturday (Feb. 19) in observance of Presidents’ Day. Offices with M-F hours will be closed on Monday (Feb. 21) for Presidents’ Day.
