OLYMPIA — Before hiring a limousine or town car to go to the prom or celebrate a special event like a wedding, check to see if it's licensed and legitimate.
“There are many qualified and licensed limousine companies to choose from in Washington, but be sure to make sure the company is licensed and check references before hiring one,” Department of Licensing Director Liz Luce said.
Limousine operators in Washington are required to be licensed, carry sufficient liability insurance, and undergo annual safety inspections by the Washington State Patrol. Chauffeurs must be at least 21 years of age, hold a valid driver license, complete a chauffeur training course and pass a State Patrol background check.

To find out if the limousine service you plan to use is licensed by the state, visit the Department of Licensing website at dol.wa.gov. Click on the Business Licensing tab at the top of the page and select, Check Status of a Business or Professional License. If you do not see the business listed, or you do not see it listed as a limousine company, please call the department directly at 360.664.1414. They can help you verify that the limousine company is properly licensed.
