Enhanced driver license/ID card (EDL/EID)

Enhanced driver licenses (EDLs) and enhanced ID cards (EIDs) securely denote identity and citizenship, and are acceptable alternatives to passports for re-entry to the U.S. at land and sea border crossings.

Background

We began issuing EDL/EIDs on January 22, 2008. To learn more about the history of our border crossing program, please see Washington State Border Crossing Initiative.
