How to get your license: Appraisal management companies

Requirements

To qualify for a license, an appraisal management company must:

  • Have a business license with the Business Licensing Service (Department of Revenue).
  • Appoint 1 person as the designated controlling person.
  • Submit fingerprint cards for background investigations of their designated controlling person and every owner with a 10% or greater interest in the company.
  • Have a $25,000 surety bond.

How to apply for an appraisal management company license

  1. Email us at dolbpdamc@dol.wa.gov to request fingerprint cards for the designated controlling person and each owner with a 10% or greater interest in the company.
  2. Complete an Appraisal Management Company Application, following the instructions on the form.
  3. Complete a Appraisal Management Company $25,000 Surety Bond form to provide proof your company has a $25,000 surety bond.
  4. Have your fingerprints taken, using the cards we sent you.
    • Each fingerprinting service sets its own fee, and you’ll be required to pay them when you get your fingerprints taken.
    • Don’t fold the fingerprint card when you submit it, or your fingerprints will have to be retaken.
  5. Complete an Appraisal Management Company Controlling Person and Owner Registration.
  6. Mail your completed forms, the original fingerprint cards, and a check or money order for the nonrefundable application and fingerprinting fees (payable to the Department of Licensing) to:

  7. Please allow at least 2 weeks for us to review your application and determine if you’re eligible for a license.

How to register as a designated controlling person or owner

  1. Complete an Appraisal Management Company Controlling Person and Owner Registration.
    • If you’re from outside Washington State, please complete the Consent of Service included with the form.
  2. Mail your completed registration form, original fingerprint card, and a check or money order for the nonrefundable fingerprinting fee (payable to the Department of Licensing) to:

  3. Please allow at least 2 weeks for us to review your application and determine if your eligiblity.
