New board policies

On June 5, 2009, the Washington State Board for Architects adopted 2 policies addressing the oral examination.

  • The first removes the oral exam from the 5-year clock rule if the candidates have completed all sections of the Architect Registration Examinations (ARE) within a 5-year period.
  • The second policy allows the board to waive the oral exam for reciprocity candidates who meet certain criteria.

NCARB direct registration

Starting May 15, 2009, architect candidates will work directly with NCARB during IDP training and completion of the ARE. Once these requirements are met, NCARB will forward the NCARB record to our board staff. Then candidates must submit the forms, fees, and supporting documents required to complete the application process before getting a license.

You may only use direct registration if you are a newly eligible candidate who meets NCARB’s education requirement and have an active NCARB record.
