How to get a license
You must have a license to practice cosmetology in Washington. To find out how get your license, see:
- Cosmetologist, barber, manicurist, esthetician, hair design, or master esthetician
- Salon/shop, personal service, mobile unit
- Postsecondary school
- Permanent cosmetics (required if you charge a fee to apply permanent eyeliner, eyebrows, lip color, or any other skin repigmentation)
To get a copy of your current WA license…
If you have a license in another state
We only issue licenses for WA. To get licensed in another state, contact the licensing board in that state. See the NIC website for a list of U.S. licensing boards.
If you apply for a WA license, it won’t affect your license in another state.
