Licensing requirements

To get a license as a cosmetology instructor, you must:

  • hold a current instructor license in good standing in another state or foreign country.
  • have a current cosmetology, barber, manicurist, or esthetics license in Washington State.

How to get your license

Submit all of the following:

  • a completed Adobe PDF iconapplication.
  • verification you have a current license in good standing in another state or foreign country. A copy of your license is NOT verification of licensure. Please contact the state you are licensed in to request a verification.
  • proof you have passed the state-approved National-Interstate Council of State Boards of Cosmetology (NIC) written and practical examinations.
  • the fee (if applicable.)
