How to renew your license: Salon/shop, personal service, or mobile unit

Due to facility issues, this licensing program has limited operations. There may be delays in responding to requests. We apologize for the inconvenience. We’re working toward resuming all business operations as soon as possible.

If you haven’t changed the location of your salon/shop, you may:

  • Renew online — if you received a password with your renewal notice:
    1. Complete your renewal information:
      • Go to Renew your professional license.
      • In the first box, enter 20921.
      • In the second box, enter your license number.
      • In the third and fourth boxes, enter the password printed on the renewal notice.
      • Click continue to complete the renewal process.
    2. Pay with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express (no gift cards).
  • or
  • Renew by mail by:
    1. Sending us all the following:
      • A completed application form.
      • Certification on the application that you carry public liability insurance of not less than $100,000 that includes bodily injury and property damage.
      • A check or money order for the $110 fee (payable to Department of Licensing).
    2. Mailing your application, insurance certification, and fee to:

If you didn’t receive your renewal notice and need your password, call 360.664.6626 and press "?" to speak with a customer service representative.

If you have changed the location address for your salon/shop, you can’t renew your license. You must reapply for a new license at your new address. To get a license for your new location:

  1. Complete a Salon/Shop, Personal Services, or Mobile Unit License Application.
    • Check the “Changing locations” box at the top of the form.
  2. Submit your completed application, certification of insurance, and a check or money order for the $110 fee (payable to the Department of Licensing) to:

After you renew

You can expect to get your new license:

  • If you renewed online: Within 14 business days.
  • If you renewed by mail: Up to 90 days.

Late renewals

  • If your renewal is late, there is a $160 late renewal fee.
  • If your license expired over 1 year, it’s canceled and you must re-apply.

We consider your salon unlicensed if your license expires or gets canceled. You can receive a fine for engaging in unlicensed activity.

If you have a license in another state

We only renew Washington state licenses. To renew your license in another state, please contact the licensing board in that state. See the NIC website for a list of U.S. licensing boards.
