How to renew your license: Salon/shop, personal service, or mobile unit

If you haven’t changed the location of your salon/shop, you may:

  • Renew online if you received a password with your renewal notice. To renew online:
    1. Enter the password provided on your renewal notice.
    2. Complete your renewal information.
    3. Pay with a Visa, MasterCard, or American Express (no gift cards).
  • or
  • Renew by mail by:
    1. Sending us all of the following:
      • A completed application form.
      • Certification on the application that you carry public liability insurance of not less than $100,000 that includes bodily injury and property damage.
      • A check or money order for the $110 fee (payable to Department of Licensing).
    2. Mailing your application, insurance certification, and fee to:

If you have changed the location address for your salon/shop, you can’t renew your license. You must reapply for a new license at your new address. To get a license for your new location:

  1. Complete a Salon/Shop, Personal Services, or Mobile Unit License Application.
    • Check the “Changing locations” box at the top of the form.
  2. Submit your completed application, certification of insurance, and a check or money order for the $110 fee (payable to the Department of Licensing) to:

After you renew

You can expect to get your new license:

  • If you renewed online: Within 14 business days.
  • If you renewed by mail: Up to 90 days.

Late renewals

  • If your renewal is late, you’ll be charged a $160 late renewal fee.
  • If your license has been expired for more than 1 year, it has been canceled and you must re-apply.

Note: If your license is expired or canceled, your salon is considered to be unlicensed, and you may be fined for engaging in unlicensed activity.

If you have a license in another state

We only renew Washington state licenses. To renew your license in another state, please contact the licensing board in that state for instructions. See the NIC website for a list of U.S. licensing boards.
