Exam: Funeral directors
Which exams do I need to take?
- All applicants must take the Washington State Law examination, including Public Health.
- Applicants for the funeral director license must take the Funeral Arts examination.
- Applicants will not be required to take the Arts and/or Sciences sections if they have successfully completed the National Board examinations with average scores of 75% or better in each section OR another state’s Arts and/or Sciences examinations.
When are exams held?
Examinations are administered 4 times a year in February, May, August, and November. The next exam is May 20, 2008.
How do I apply to take the exam?
Submit all of the following:
- A completed
Funeral Director/Embalmer license application with signed attestation. (Note: Your social security number is now required by law.)
- The examination fee payable to Washington State Treasurer.
- Official transcripts from colleges, universities, mortuary schools. Photocopies are not acceptable
- An official copy of national board scores (if applicable) sent directly from the national board.
- Verification forms from the state board of each state where you have been licensed.
Can I retake the exam?
Applicants failing an examination are allowed one retake at no additional fee.
