Learn how to get your landscape architect license if you already have an active license in another state or country.

Who needs a license?

Anyone who holds an active landscape architect license in another state or country and wants to work as a landscape architect in Washington.

How to apply

Follow the steps below to get your landscape architect license by reciprocity.

1. Meet the requirements

To qualify for a license, you must:

  • Hold an active landscape architect license in another state or country
  • Have qualifications and experience that meet the following criteria:

2. Complete all the necessary forms

Complete the Landscape Architect Law Summary Review Exam.

If applying by mail, you must also complete a Landscape Architect License Application.

If you have a CLARB Council Record, complete sections 1, 3, and 5 only.

3. Submit certification to the state board

If you have a CLARB Council Record, have CLARB transmit your record to the board via email (email must come directly from a third party).

If you don’t have a CLARB Council Record, have all of the following documents sent to the address shown below:

  • Official college transcripts from your college or university
  • Certification that you've completed one of the following exams from the state where you received your first license:
    • Landscape Architect Registration Exam
    • Uniform National Exam for Landscape Architects
  • Certification of a valid landscape architect license from the state where you are currently licensed

4. Submit your application

You must pay the 2-year licensing fee when you submit your application. Choose the method that works best for you.
