How to get your license: Landscape architects

Steps to apply if you have a landscape architecture degree

1. Contact the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) to take the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE).
2. CLARB will register you for the exam.
3. After you’ve passed all sections of the exam:
   • If you have a CLARB Council Record, submit all of the following:
     • Your CLARB Council Record. Contact CLARB to have it sent to the board office.
     • Sections 1 and 5 of the Landscape Architect Licensure Application.
     • A written law review related to the practice of landscape architecture. See the Instructions for Completing the Requirements.
     • A check or money order for the exam and initial license fees (payable to the Department of Licensing)
   • If you don’t have a CLARB Council Record, submit all of the following:
     • Your exam scores. Contact CLARB to have them sent to the board office.
     • Sections 1, 2, 4, and 5 of the Landscape Architect Licensure Application.
     • Official transcripts, sent directly from the college or university.
     • Employment and Experience Verification (page 5 of the application), sent directly from your employment verifiers.
     • A written law review related to the practice of landscape architecture: Instructions for Completing the Requirements.
     • A check or money order for the exam and initial license fees (payable to the Department of Licensing).
4. Mail your completed forms, supporting documents, and fee to

   Seattle, WA 98124-3401

Note: If you don’t pass the exam the first time, you may continue to take it until you pass. However, you must pass all divisions of the exam within 5 years. This 5-year time limit begins when you first pass a division of the exam.
