Short-term or special needs Vehicle certificates

You must have a Special Needs Vehicle Certificate to authorize the use of rented or leased vehicles not owned by your business for less than 30 days. A separate certificate is required for each rented or leased vehicle operated as a limousine.

How to change a vehicle certificate

To make any changes to a vehicle certificate:

  1. Submit all of the following:
    • The requested change in writing.
    • The fee of $20 per vehicle (check or money order payable to the Department of Revenue).
  2. Mail the written request and fee to:

How to replace lost or destroyed certificates

  • Vehicle certificate: Call us at 360-664-1389.
  • Special needs certificate: Reapply for a new one.
