Short-term or special needs vehicle certificates

If your limousine business needs to use a rented or leased limousine for a short time, you must first get a “special needs certificate” for the vehicle.

  • This certificate is valid for no more than 30 consecutive days.
  • Short-term or special needs limousines must meet all applicable requirements, including the ability to pass a Washington State Patrol limousine inspection.

To request short-term or special needs vehicle certificates:

  1. Submit all of the following:
    • A written explanation of the reason you need the certificates, including the vehicle identification number (VIN) of each rented or leased vehicle.
    • The fee of $20 per vehicle (check or money order payable to the Department of Revenue).
  2. Mail your written request and fee to:

How to update or correct an existing limousine vehicle certificate

To change the vehicle information for your limousines:

  1. Submit all of the following:
    • A written explanation of the reason for the change, including the vehicle identification number (VIN) of each vehicle to be updated or corrected.
    • The fee of $20 per vehicle (check or money order payable to the Department of Revenue).
  2. Mail your written request and fee to:

How to replace lost or destroyed certificates

  • Vehicle certificate: Call us at 360-664-1389.
  • Special needs certificate: Reapply for a new one.
