Learn how to renew or update your notary public license.

Renew your license

  • You must renew your notary public license every 4 years
  • You can renew up to 120 days before your license expires
  • If your license expires, you can’t renew it and must apply for a new license

How to renew

Gather what you'll need

  • Your license number
  • Copy of your signed $10,000 surety bond
  • Payment for the renewal fee

Renew your license by mail

Mail a completed Notary Public Commission Renewal Application, a copy of your surety bond, and a check or money order (payable to the Department of Licensing) for the renewal fee to:

Update your license

Update your contact information

You can change your contact information online or by mail or email.

Update your contact information online

Log into SecureAccess Washington (SAW) or create a SAW account to change your information online.

Update your contact information by email

Email us at notaries@dol.wa.gov with your changes and include the following:

  • Name, as it appears on your notary certificate
  • Date of birth
  • Previous address, phone, or email
  • New address, phone, or email

Update your contact information by mail

Send a letter with your changes to:

Change your name on your notary certificate and stamp

You can change your name on your notary certificate and stamp online or by mail. Once we send you a new certificate, you can use it to order a new stamp or seal.

Get an electronic copy of your surety bond rider with your new name.

Mail a completed Notary Public Name Change Application and a copy of your surety bond rider with your new name to:
