How to get your license: Private investigators

The Washington State Legislature has not yet approved state operating and capital budgets for the 2017–19 biennium, which begins July 1. If the Legislature does not approve budgets by June 30, several state agencies will go through full or partial operations shutdowns. Private investigator agency

An individual, partnership, or corporation in the business of conducting investigations.

Unarmed private investigator

An individual who works for a licensed private investigator agency providing investigation, escort, or bodyguard services, or property loss prevention activities.

Armed private investigator

An individual who carries a firearm while on duty working for a licensed private investigator agency providing investigation, escort, or bodyguard services, or property loss prevention activities.

Certified trainer

A license endorsement that allows an individual to provide pre-assignment training for unarmed private investigators.
