How to change the name on your license

  1. Complete a Real Estate License Transfer, Name Change, or Reactivation Application.
  2. Write us a brief letter stating what your name is being changed to and from.
  3. Submit your completed form and letter:
    • By mail to:

      Department of Licensing
      PO Box 9021
      Olympia, WA 98507-9021
    • In person at our Olympia office (2000 4th Ave W).

How to transfer your license to another firm

  1. Complete a Real Estate License Transfer, Name Change, or Reactivation Application.
  2. Include your current license showing the office you’re leaving.
  3. Submit your completed form and license to:
    • By mail to:

      Department of Licensing
      PO Box 9021
      Olympia, WA 98507-9021
    • In person at our Olympia office (2000 4th Ave W).

How to activate your inactive license

  1. Call us at 360-664-6500 to find out if you need to complete education before applying to activate your license.
    • If you’ve been inactive more than 3 years, you’ll need to meet education requirements.
    • If you’ve been inactive less than 1 year, you may need to complete education before activating your license.
  2. Complete and sign a Real Estate License Transfer, Name Change, or Reactivation Application.
  3. Submit your application:
    • By mail to:
