What’s new: Real estate educators

Rules changes effective November 13, 2007

The following rule changes will be implemented in November:

  • WAC 308-124H-013 — Application Process for Previously Approved Courses
This change will limit the number of automatic renewals to 1, making a course valid for no longer than 4 years. After the first renewal, any subsequent renewals will need department approval again.
  • WAC 308-124H-025 — General Requirements for Course Approval
This change updates the topic areas relating to the practice of real estate, formats the rule for easy selection of topic areas, and identifies specific content or courses that are not acceptable.
  • WAC 308-124H-039 — Changes and Updates in Approved Courses
This change will ensure that licensees taking continuing education courses for their license renewal will be taught current and valid information.

Updated student evaluation form

Education providers will now be required to give a student evaluation form to each student who takes a distance education course. The providers must maintain these evaluation records for a period of 5 years. The Real Estate Education Committee has updated its Adobe PDF iconrecommended evaluation form. Areas shaded gray are mandatory to be included in your evaluation form.

Determining clock hours

A recent amendment will require the applicant to demonstrate how the provider determined the number of clock hours requested for course application approval.

The Real Estate Education Committee purposely did not specify a required methodology to allow primary providers an opportunity to develop creative and innovative solutions for determining clock hours requested. However, the committee did provide guidance to staff that for approval, the Adobe PDF iconDistance Education Delivery Method Approval Application must include a stated methodology for how the applicant arrived at the number of clock hours being requested and include evidence that the applicant used an independent third party to determine and verify the clock hours requested.
