How to renew your license: Driver training school

When to renew

You renew your license every year. Your renewal must be received on or before the expiration date.

What you’ll need for the main school location:

A SecureAccess Washington (SAW) account to apply online.
- If you don't have one, you'll be able to create one before you start.
- For help visit How to set up account access.
Copy of lease for school premises.
Proof of insurance for school premises at a commercial location.
Proof of insurance for vehicle(s).
Be prepared to pay your application fee.

What you'll need for a branch location:

Your printable license will become available on your dashboard within 24 hours. Log in to print a copy.
You may also request a copy of your license be mailed to you. This requires a $5.00 fee that you may pay in our online licensing system.

What you'll need for the main school location:

Proof of insurance for vehicle(s) which must include Uninsured Motorists coverage (UIM).
Vehicle registration/s.
Curriculum forms:
- Curriculum Cross Reference tool.
- School policy.
- Student record.
- Behind the Wheel form.
- Curriculum flow chart.
- Final test and test key.
Signed Owner Declarations complete with signatures of all school owners.
Be prepared to pay your application fee.

What you'll need for a branch location:

Copy of lease for school premises.
Main Schools must provide an update to their insurance certificate/s to include the new location. Please visit your school dashboard in our online professional licensing system and submit the updated insurance by submitting an Account Maintenance Request.
Signed Owner Declarations completed with signatures of all school owners.
Be prepared to pay your application fee

You will be contacted by an auditor to schedule an inspection of your school and vehicles.
Allow at least 4 weeks for processing.

We will notify you when your license is approved and ready to be linked to instructors and staff in LX for Business. Driver Training Schools are required to have an association to a licensed driver training school instructor.
Log in to print a copy. The printable copy will become available once you have associated with an instructor in LX for Business.
Your license must be posted at your place of business before instructing any students.
