How to get or renew your license - Transportation network companies
You must comply with all applicable laws and rules, even if not covered below.
Things to know
To get your transportation network company license, you must:
- Apply for your license with the Department of Revenue starting on March 1, 2023.
- We're providing a 30-day period to apply ending the night of March 31, 2023.
- To operate as a transportation network company, you must be licensed.
Who needs a license?
A Transportation Network Company (TNC) is any entity using a digital network to connect passengers with transportation network company drivers to provide prearranged rides. This does not include for hire transportation services.
How to apply
We issue this license, but it's processed by the Department of Revenue's Business Licensing Service (BLS). BLS prints it on the business license they provide. They refer to licenses issued by us as endorsements to the business license.
Apply online with the Department of Revenue.
What you'll need
- A valid email address
- Visa, MasterCard or American Express credit/debit card (transaction fee charged) or bank account information for E-check to pay:
- Applicable BLS fees
- Applicable TNC fees
Apply by mail
- Complete or obtain a Business License Application
- Mail the completed form with a check/money order payable to the Department of Revenue for all fees to:

After you apply
After all correct documents have been received, DOR will send your license to the address on file within 14 business days.
How to renew
Your license expires in 1 year and you can renew 120 days before expiration. Renew online with the Department of Revenue. You will follow the same instruction as applying above.
