Tips for visiting and EDL/EID office
If you’re applying for an enhanced driver license (EDL) or enhanced ID card (EID), be sure to:
- Allow enough time to get your permanent EDL/EID before you need to travel. You’ll get a temporary EDL/EID before you leave the office, and you should get your permanent card in the mail in 2–3 weeks. You can use the temporary card for identification, but not for border crossing.
- Bring all the documents you’ll need:
- Proof of citizenship, identity, and residence
- Your Social Security number (You don’t need to show us your Social Security card.)
- Proof of name change, if your current name is different than the name on any of your citizenship or identity documents
- Bring cash, check, or money order for the fee.
- Allow enough time to complete both the formal documents review and the in-person interview. More time will be needed if you’re applying with multiple family members.
