Learn the requirements for renewing your motorcycle safety instructor or examiner license.

Renew your license

  • You must renew your authorization every 2 years
  • We'll send you a notice 60 days before your expiration date to remind you

Renewal requirements

Update your contact information online, if necessary, before you renew your license.

Examiner requirements

To renew your motorcycle examiner license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have a current and valid driver license or state ID card
  • Have no disqualifying convictions

Instructor requirements

To renew your motorcycle instructor license, you must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Have a current and valid driver license for a minimum of 3 years
  • Have a current and valid motorcycle endorsement for the curriculum you want to teach
  • Have an acceptable driving record
  • Have no disqualifying convictions
  • Have certification in a Washington Motorcycle Safety Program approved curriculum
  • Have taught the required number of classes per RCW 46.81A.020 (leg.wa.gov)
  • Be certified in basic first aid

After we've received your application

We’ll review your renewal application and notify you once it's approved. This may take up to 4 weeks.
