Military experience waiver

Starting November 26, 2018 we'll no longer approve a Military Skills Test Waiver at our driver licensing offices. Customers need to submit the form and other required documents to CDLTrainingCerts@dol.wa.gov.

Things to know

  • If you drove trucks in the military, you may be able to get a CDL without having to take a skills test or provide a training certificate. Knowledge tests can't be waived.
  • You can't get a passenger or school bus endorsement under this waiver. You must complete a skills test and submit a training certificate.
  • A CDL is not allowed an indefinite military expiration. The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR 383.73(b) (9)) doesn't allow expirations beyond 8 years.
