How to get your license: Landscape architect without an accredited degree
Use this process if you have a degree that is not accredited by the Landscape Architect Accreditation Board (LAAB).
How to apply
- Submit an application, either online or by mail:

- Log in or sign up to apply and pay the application fee.
- By mail
- Submit all of the following:
- Landscape Architect License Application
- A check or money order for the application fee (payable to the Department of Licensing) to:

- Submit all of the following:
- Online
- Complete section A of a Landscape Architect Employment and Experience Verification form for each work experience you are having verified. Have the work verifier complete sections B and C and return the form to the address shown at the top of the form.
- Have your college or university send official transcripts to:

Email: landscape@dol.wa.gov (Email must come directly from the school) - If we approve your application, we’ll notify the Council of Landscape Architectural Registration Boards (CLARB) that you’re eligible to take the exam.
- Contact CLARB (clarb.org) to take the Landscape Architect Registration Exam (LARE).
- CLARB will register you for the exam.
- Take and pass all divisions of the exam.
- If you don’t pass a division of the exam the first time, you may continue to take the exam until you pass. However, once you pass your first exam division, you must pass all divisions of the exam within 5 years.
- When you’ve passed all sections of the exam, ask CLARB to transmit your LARE scores to the board.
- Complete a Landscape Architect Law Summary Review Exam.
- Complete the application process, either online or by mail:

- Log in or sign up to:
- Upload your Landscape Architect Law Review Exam (see step 8).
- Pay your 2-year license fee.
- Log in or sign up to:
- By mail
- Send us the following:
- A check or money order for your 2-year license fee (payable to the Department of Licensing).
- A completed, signed, and dated Landscape Architect Law Review Exam (see step 8).
