Information for supervisors
Eligibility requirements
To supervise up to 3 trainees:
- Be a state-certified real estate appraiser for at least 3 years.
- Have been in "good standing" for 3 years immediately preceding supervisory application.
- Successful completion of the Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser course.
To get an exception to supervise 4 to 8 trainees:
- Be a state-certified real estate appraiser for at least 5 years.
- Have been in "good standing" for 3 years immediately preceding supervisory application.
- Successful completion of the Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser course.
- If already approved to supervise up to 3 trainees, to request an exception for more, you'll need to email an exception request including a written plan to reappraisers@dol.wa.gov that includes:
- The names, license numbers, and first license issuance date of all trainees you wish to train (refer to WAC 308-125-095(2) for limitations).
- If applicable, names, license numbers of all additional certified appraisers who will also supervise the trainees. If there is a primary supervisor for each trainee, please include that information.
- Explain how you will ensure the trainees are provided sufficient supervision and experience.
- If multiple supervisors, each supervisor must be, (or in the process to be), approved as a supervisor.
- Each time you want to add a trainee (or exchange a trainee for another), you're required to submit an updated request and plan.

Allow at least 5 business days to process your application before you plan to start supervising a trainee. Complete and submit:

- Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser course completion certificate, ready to upload.
- If not already approved as a supervisor and wish to supervise more than 3, your written request or plan, ready to upload.

- Include the course completion certificate for the Supervisory Appraiser/Trainee Appraiser course.

No longer supervising a trainee?
You must report when you're no longer supervising a trainee. The supervisor and trainee relationship is automatically broken when a trainee becomes licensed or certified.
You can report your supervisor/trainee break online or by mail.

You can break the relationship if you log in or sign up.
- A trainee can choose to break the relationship from their online account.
- A notification will automatically be sent to both you and the trainee.
By mail
Complete and submit the Real Estate Appraiser Supervisor Registration form.
